The Fig Tree - 2024 Anthology Launch Events and Website News
Books now available for purchase or pre-order plus more on events
Hello Fig Tree Subscribers and Readers
I will be bombarding you a little bit more than usual over the next couple of months with news and updates - I promise I’ll slow down a bit over the summer!
The main news is that the website crookedspirepress.com is now fully live, with options to buy our books and news and full details of events. You can subscribe to the news feed over there too if you wish.
In-person Anthology Launch
The launch was a huge success, with readings from 20 poets whose work was included in the anthology reading from it, and reading other poems. Many thanks to Stephanie Bisby for allowing the use of the Unitarian Church, Fiona Fellows for the delicious home-made cakes and making the drinks, and all the poets and poetry supporters for coming along. You can see more photos by Tracy, Fiona, Paul Brookes and Adam Strickson over at the event page on the Crooked Spire Press website.
Online Anthology launch
For those contributors and supporters unable to come to the in-person launch, there is an online launch, on Zoom, on Sunday, May 18th at 7pm. It’s free, but you need to reserve a place to get the link. You can do that via the event page on Crooked Spire Press, or directly at buytickets.at/crookedspirepress/1679208, where you can also optionally pay for a copy of the anthology to be posted to you before the event. If you buy a copy please leave your address when you register, or email it to crookedspirepress@mail.com, otherwise I can’t ship it!
The Last Corinthians by Matthew Paul
The Last Corinthians, Matthew Paul’s fine latest collection, is available for pre-order over at the Crooked Spire Press website, either directly (paying by Paypal) or by registering for the free online launch on Tuesday, 10th June (7pm) where there is an option to by a ticket that includes a pre-order of the book, posted to you as soon as it is available. You can use credit or debit card via this method. If you prefer to pay by bank transfer, email us at crookedspirepress@mail.com
In-person events are also planned - full details over at (I think you can guess by now) the Crooked Spire Press website, but here’s a full list in picture format!
Webzines
In all the excitement it’s easy to forget that the start of all this was the Fig Tree webzine, and a regular issue will be landing later this week. Submissions are open year-round.
The second part of the Coal Mining special will be available in June, then we will be back to regular issues in July, September and November. If you want to be in the 2025 Anthology, get your submissions in - details on The Fig Tree submissions page.
And what a brilliant event it was, thank you:). Enjoyed the photos too, though my prettier side wsn't caught right.
Apologies for reading a slightly different version of my work. It was an accidental printing of an old edit and one of a number of Charlie Drakes that haunted an otherwise superb day. A brilliant selection of poets though how I got there must have been an act of God, against which no-one is insured
