The Anthology of selected poems from 2024 Issues of The Fig Tree have now been printed and will be available for sale in April at an RRP of just £6 with discounts for multiple copies and for contributors. The Fig Tree Anthology 2024 is published by our imprint Crooked Spire Press, and to celebrate the anthology and the launch of the Press we will be holding a reading of poems from the anthology from some of the poets at the Unitarian Church in Doncaster at 3 o’clock on Saturday, April 26th. Full details are available on the Events page - click here to find it.
We really look forward to meeting as many of you as possible. There are some terrific poets who have agreed to come along, many of whom would justify a headline slot in their own right.
Also look out in your Inbox today for part one of our Coal Mining Special. It’s gone beyond my expectations in terms of quality and quantity of work so there will be two special issues, one today and one in May/June. Submissions are still open until April 30th for part 2, and a likely printed anthology in the autumn, submission info is here.
Further info for poets reading at the event:
Please read a poem from the book plus one or two of your own choice up to a maximum of 5 minutes. There are no specific constraints on subject matter and language but please bear in mind the audience is not age restricted and stick to the same rules that we apply for submissions.
If you didn’t receive my email about this and would like to attend and read, or have any further questions, send me an email. It’s possible my mail to you went to your Spam filter - I got put on the naughty step last week by mail.com for potential spam so future bulk announcements will probably come via Substack.
Thanks, and I look forward to seeing you on the 26th!
So fabulous - wonderful cover, great RRP, excellent concept. Can't wait to read everyon'e work, very exciting. And thanks for all your hard work and efforts.
This looks like a great anthology (despite me) and I thank mr Devonland for reminding me to comment on the cover. Books and judgement myth aside, what puts me off many publications (even if I know what to expect) is half hearted presentation. Not that it’s easy to represent a mixed bag, but a relevant theme beats for example a tenuous or obscure photo or pc cheapo image 🫢comme cą😺. I look forwards to hearing others speak as much as my own ha’peth
