Just a quick note to say how delighted I’ve been with the response to Issue 1 of The Fig Tree. The poems in there are top class and I’m sure you all appreciated the quality of the selection. It has had over 500 views so far, and The Fig Tree now has over 100 subscribers.
Issue 2 is well on the way to being ready, and I’m already filling slots in issues 3 and 4. However there are places available and I would urge you all to submit your work. The next issue has the first Fig Tree poem submitted by someone living outside the UK and from poets who are probably not as widely known as many of those in issue 1.
Also I’m going to sneak in a shameless plug for my poetry blog Tim Fellows Poetry, also on Substack. I mainly publish reviews and write articles about other poets and try to keep self-promotion at a minimum! The latest review is of Sarah Wimbush’s superb collection STRIKE, and upcoming will be reviews of Ian Parks’ Selected Poems 1983-2023 and Hannah Stone’s recently launched The Invisible Worm. If you would like your pamphlet or collection to be reviewed, drop me an email on thefigtree<at>mail.com (replace <at> with the ‘@’ symbol and yes, it’s mail.com not gmail.com). This is also the email on which to submit to The Fig Tree, but please read the submissions page first. Or message me by clicking this button:
Later today on my blog I will be publishing the third part of my series on the Spanish poet Miguel Hernández, looking at his second collection and his time in Madrid before the Civil War changed everything.
Once again, thank you for the kind words about issue 1. It means a lot to me and to the poets that their work is read and enjoyed.
